Zurich Insurance Group has announced the appointment of Michael Kerner as the new chief executive officer of General Insurance (GI).
In addition to this appointment, which is effective from 1 September and subject to regulatory approval, he will assume a seat upon the Group Executive Committee (GEC).
Kerner is currently the chief executive officer of Global Corporate in North America and will be based in Zurich, where he will be directly responsible to Martin Senn, Zurich CEO.
His replacement as CEO of Global Corporate in North America will be announced later.
Earlier in his career he served as global chief underwriting officer for General Insurance and head of Group Strategy for the firm.
Kerner joined Zurich 20 years ago, from Continental Insurance Company, during which time he has held a range of senior executive positions.
