Bupa invests £1m in school sport

In the wake of the United Kingdom’s golden summer of sport and the world’s largest half-marathon, the Bupa Great North Run, Bupa has announced an investment of £1m in school sport over the next three years.

The money will be spent through the Bupa Start to Move programme, which began in 2010 and has operated in more than 3,000 schools.

The programme teaches the basics of movement, stability and locomotion which are needed for sport or dancing, and provides teachers with free instruction and support.

The University of Roehampton has conducted extensive research which reveals that 24% of teachers who participated in the programme have seen an improvement in behaviour from their pupils.

Bupa Chief Executive Stuart Fletcher stated that the firm was passionate about inspiring people to get active and developing the Greg Rutherford, Ellie Simmonds and Jess Ennis of tomorrow.
