International specialty property/casualty insurer and reinsurer Catlin Group Limited has announced the appointment of Michael Maran to the position of chief science officer.
Maran led the firm’s space insurance activities for the last decade and, in his new role, will continue to be based in London.
He will work alongside underwriters, risk modellers, actuaries and other employees of Catlin to enhance the firm’s risk assessment capabilities by assessing the scientific elements of risks.
Maran will also be tasked with the identification of new underwriting opportunities and advise the firm on a range of activities that have a scientific aspect.
He first joined the firm 10 years ago, and brings to the role of chief science officer more than three decades of industry experience.
