Hiscox appoints Catastrophe Research chief

Hiscox has announced the appointment of Dr. Richard Dixon as the firm’s new group head of Catastrophe Research.

Hiscox has also bolstered its London Market reinsurance team with the appointment of Jonathan Lord and Nick Orton as trainee underwriters for non-marine treaty business in the US and international, respectively.

Dr. Dixon, who will report directly to Rob Caton, joined Risk Management Solutions 12 years ago to increase understanding of windstorm risk and to help put together catastrophe models.

Prior to joining Hiscox he worked in the catastrophe modelling team at Benfield, and held a similar position at Renaissance Re.

Lord joined the firm through the Hiscox Graduate Scheme, and Orton joins Hiscox from Ascot, where he worked as a catastrophe modeller.

Hiscox London Market MD Russell Merrett said that the firm would benefit from Dr. Dixon’s expertise and wealth of commercial experience, and welcomed the appointment of Orton and Lord.
