Hiscox appoints head of catastrophe research

Hiscox has appointed Dr Richard Dixon as group head of catastrophe research.

Dr Dixon obtained a PhD in Meteorology from Reading University in 1999, studying the processes that lead to severe European windstorms.

From there, he joined Risk Management Solutions and subsequently worked in the catastrophe modelling teams at Benfield and Renaissance Re, specialising in catastrophe model evaluation.

In addition, Hiscox’s London Market reinsurance team has been expanded with the recruitment of Jonathan Lord and Nick Orton as trainee underwriters.

Jonathan Lord joined the firm’s graduate scheme in 2009, moving on to the marine and energy claims department.

In his new role, he will focus on non-marine treaty business in North America and the Caribbean.

Nick Orton, who will focus on international non-marine treaty business, joins from Ascot where he was a catastrophe modeller.
