West Midlands drivers are least respectful

Research commissioned by AXA car insurance has found that drivers in the West Midlands are the least respectful in Britain.

The survey involved 2,000 drivers and found that those in Coventry, Birmingham and Wolverhampton were least respectful and most likely to break rules whilst driving.

Sheffield and Newcastle also featured in the bottom five cities on the list, with 9% of those from Newcastle happy to use the mobile phone whilst driving and 10% of Sheffield drivers admitting to tailgating.

The speed limit is seen as something of an optional extra by 45% of Coventry drivers, with 40% of Birmingham motorists also breaking speed limits.

At the more respectful end of the scale is Brighton and Hove, with Worcester, Aberdeen, Southampton and Aberystwyth rounding out the top five.

Amanda Edwards from AXA car insurance stressed that rules and regulations existed for a reason, and that disrespectful and thoughtless driving caused accidents.
