Towergate acquires Dawson Whyte

Towergate Insurance has announced the acquisition of Dawson Whyte, one of Northern Ireland’s largest independent broking businesses.

Dawson Whyte was founded in the 1950s as a partnership, and is today headquartered in Belfast with five offices across Northern Ireland.

The firm provides commercial and personal lines insurance services to Ireland, Northern Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom.

Directors Gordon Whyte, Brian Dawson, Hugh McKinty and Michael McClurg and all regional directors will remain in place, as will the firm’s 80 employees.

McKinty will become Towergate’s managing director for Northern Ireland within the broking division.

McKinty will be directly responsible to Kenny Hogg, regional MD of the newly enlarged Scotland and Northern Ireland region.

Group Chief Executive Officer Mark Hodges stated that Dawson Whyte enjoyed an exceptional reputation and impressive history, adding that he was delighted to add the firm to the Towergate Group.

The acquisition follows those made earlier this month, when Towergate acquired the non-life business of Newstead Insurance Brokers and also of broker, Grenville Westinsure.
