AIG appoints Global Consumer CUO


American International Group, Inc. (AIG) has announced the appointment of Kim Garland as the new chief underwriting officer for Global Consumer Insurance.


Garland joins AIG Property Causalty from AIG’s United Guaranty Corporation (UGC) where he was president and chief executive officer.


In his new role he will assume responsibility for the worldwide Consumer book of business underwriting results.


In addition, Garland will be tasked with establishing the risk appetite and profile for the business and collaborating with business lines and regions to drive the strategy for each product line.


Garland will report directly to Global Consumer Insurance Chief Executive Officer Jeff Hayman.


He first joined UGC three years ago, serving initially as chief operating officer, prior to which he spent 20 years working for Safeco and GEICO.


Garland will be succeeded as president and CEO of UGC by Donna DeMaio, who will report to Chief Executive Officer of AIG Property Casualty Peter Hancock.
