Beazley establishes US contingency capability

Beazley has announced that it is to begin underwriting contingency business locally in the United States, starting in early 2013.

The focus will be on servicing existing coverholder relationships as well as fostering new business that is not usually handled by Lloyd’s underwriters in London.

Christian Phillips has been appointed to drive forward the growth of Beazley’s US account.

Phillips is an experienced professional, and a member of the team that has helped Beazley’s contingency business in London to become one of the leading underwriters in the class.

In his new role he is to be based in the firm’s Philadelphia office, with effect from 7 January 2013.

Chris Rackliffe, head of Beazley’s contingency team, stated that Superstorm Sandy had once again highlighted the importance of robust event cancellation coverage for event organisers.
